New foodbank centres open!

8th November 2016

For the last few months Glasgow NW Foodbank have been working in the background to provide emergency aid to those in need in areas including Maryhill, Possil, Milton with emergency food boxes being held by a few of our referring agencies in the area.  the foodbank have also been numerous home deliveries each week. However, the work that we have been doing, great as it has been, is only scratching the surface of poverty  to provide accessible emergency food aid.  We have been building conversations in the community to find a way forward, to find churches to become distribution centres as part of the Glasgow NW Foodbank, these conversations also involved looking at other possible solutions to fighting poverty in the area.

Glasgow North West Foodbank have formed a new partnerships with Ruchill Kelvinside Parish Church and Gairbraid Parish church for them to become Distribution Centres under our Foodbank.

There will be a formal launch of both centres on Thursday 8th December 2016 at 10am at Ruchill Kelvinside Parish Church.

Gairbraid will open weekly from Monday 5th December and Ruchill Kelvinside will open weekly from Thursday 8th December.

New volunteers are invited to spend a few days in our Blawarthill Foodbank Centre to get a feel of how the Ruchill and Gairbraid centres will run.

Where can I donate?

To begin with the Ruchill Kelvinside and Gairbraid foodbank centres will only give out food, they will no be taking any donations. We will update this when we start to accept donations at the new centres.

If you wish to donate, please click here to see where our colleciton points are.

Referral process to the new centres

The referral process to the new centres is and will be exactly the same as at Blawarthill. We are looking for more front line agencies to register with the foodbank to refer people in crisis to the foodbank.  click here for more information on the referral process.

Please contact us for more information on referring or volunteering.
